This February, The Open Book Club invites you to engage with Black Liturgies by Cole Arthur Riley — a writer, poet, and creator of the acclaimed Black Liturgies project, which explores spirituality, Black identity, and collective memory. Her work blends contemplation, social justice, and personal storytelling to offer a deeply resonant and meditative reading experience.
We will be focusing on two powerful letters from the book:
Letter V | To Those Brave Enough to Make – A meditation on the courage to create, the tension between self-belief and self-doubt, and the quiet persistence of artistry in a world that does not always affirm it.
Letter X | To Those Too Quick to Wipe Away the Tears – A deeply honest reflection on grief, presence, and the necessity of lament. How do we sit with sorrow without being consumed by it? How do we honor our wounds without becoming them?
